AG The Look’s Denim Guide
I think one should own multiple washes & multiple styles of pairs of jeans. Jeans have been proven to be red carpet approved, perfect for year round dressing, & incredible to dress down a hero piece. Jeans and turtlenecks are my most worn & most styled pieces in my closet.
Straight Leg Denim
This is my favorite fit because it’s flattering as well as comfortable. It also works with over sized looks as it balances out proportions.
Kick Boot Denim
This denim is fun because it really shows off your shoes & I just find it to be flattering and fun!
Skinny Denim
Skinny jeans are great! They are! Just as long as they aren’t the only type of denim you own and they aren’t torn to shreds with holes.
Wide Leg Denim
My go-to summer denim! I love it so much! Pro tip! If you want to use your wide leg denim but it’s windy and chilly simply throw on a pair of leggings, cropped if need be, underneath & you are good to go!
Boot Leg Denim
Again! A great pair of jeans! Not out just because they were the 90’s go-to.
Boyfriend Denim
Boyfriend, or Girlfriend jeans as some companies call it, help you achieve the coveted Jenna Lyons look: slouchy & chic. I love love love them!
Mama Denim
It’s high waisted and slouchy thus it becoming a favorite pair of jeans among my clients, but like skinny jeans make sure you branch out!
Overalls
I’ve been wearing them since I was two years old. I believe my first pair was a green corduroy pair that my mom would style with a white turtleneck and Timberland boots. Have I mentioned where I get my love of fashion from?
JORTS
Size up: it’s flattering, modest, comfortable, & chic!
Jackets & Skirts
For the jacket I love them at your actual size to pair over a dress or with your baggy denim but I also love them over sized to pair over more fitted denim & they allow a couple of layers underneath as well. For the skirt: it’s cute what else is there to say?
Denim on Denim
It’s chic, not tacky! I used to say vary your washes and you’re good to go but I think even the same washes look great together! Whether that’s a black denim jacket with a blue denim skirt or chambray on denim I approve!
Cleaning Guide
So I don’t wash or dry my denim & I always get astonished faces when I tell my clients this. Let me dive in. I have denim with holes and denim without holes & to throw them into a washer/dryer would just expand the holes or mess with the distressing. Another reason I don’t wash/dry them is because it messes with the fit and wash of the denim [if you choose to wash/dry, make sure you turn it inside out so you have less of a chance of the wash fading].
If you have denim that has stretch already in it that is another sign you shouldn’t dry them. If my denim ever has a stench then I slip them in the freezer for 3 hours or so & it gets rid of the smell [oh and it kills any bacteria too]. If I spill anything on them, I will spot treat it. I learned all of this from one of my favorite follows, Chriselle Lim. These tricks have saved my denim and has elongated their life! Yay!
What’s your favorite style of denim?? Please let me know!!!
