how I shop
Like I said in my last post I shop for quality over quantity. I used to thrift shop based on initial attraction and the low cost price for so many fun items. Two weeks would go by and I forgot I owned the majority of the 8-10 items I had purchased under $60. Now that I shop for quality, I cherish what is in my closet more. That being said here is what I stick to when it comes to shopping:
Thrifting
great for … good denim, costumes, brand name work out apparel, vintage J. Crew
Shopping in general
I keep a list of needs and a list of wants in my phone. If 2 weeks has gone by and I haven’t thought of something on either list, I take it off. If I’m online shopping or out shopping I cannot buy anything that is not on my list … unless there’s a dramatic exception (like my 2020 Halloween costume. Y’all I’m TELLING you buckle up! Stay tuned!). This helps me not break the bank and regret buying something based on initial attraction. I thank myself later often.
I don’t buy it unless I can see myself wearing it 3 different ways … this tip is golden.
Shopping Score Story 1
The denim I’m wearing above I got for $1 at a consignment sale in Liberty’s Library. I wear them about twice a week. Would wear four times a week but figured it would be excessive.
Shopping Score Story 2
My prized possession. Easily in my top 5 favorite items in my closet. I was in my beloved T.J. Maxx on a summer day before my senior year of high school. I was bored and decided to peruse the shoe section by chance. Then I saw them. Size 7 in all of their leopard glory: Kate Spade calf hair leopard booties. Y’all I looked these bad boys up and they were initially $650. I got them for $70. Can I get an amen hallelujah! I took these boots straight to the counter without hesitation and left feeling victorious. It was a good day. I never miss a shoe section perusal anytime I’m in a T.J. Maxx now! If you wanna see them go check out my portfolio at the top of the screen and you can find Elloa wearing them for her interview outfit I styled for her :)
