twenty one
I turned twenty one about two weeks ago. The LORD has done a lot since I turned twenty. He is faithful, He is good no matter what, & may I shine His light forever.
The day was sweet. I watched NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert with HAIM. My friends who happen to also be my new neighbors [they bring us food a lot Praise the LORD] brought by a bunch of balloons in my favorite color, pink. It was so thoughtful!
My friend Sarah came by & she, my oldest brother, and I headed to Jeni’s Spendid Ice Creams for my free serving of Goat Cheese & Red Cherry ~don’t knock it till you try it~ I was walking out of the shop to enjoy my favorite ice cream in the whole wide world ~sorry Italy, sorry Budapest~ when a mom of two wished me a happy birthday as she noticed my free ice cream. It happened to be her birthday as well. Her little girl, about 5 years old, began to sing me happy birthday with a prompt pause to ask my name & then without skipping a beat finished her song. We chatted for a while thanking them for the birthday wishes & found out they attended church there in the city. Her older brother, he told me he’s 7 1/2, said, “well it seems like mommy isn’t the only one emotional today.” I told him he’s not only spot on but I even have a t shirt that says “so emotional” on it. He found that hilarious. The whole interaction made my day & here’s why. Sarah, Benjamin, & I were walking to our car and Sarah asked me, “How did that feel to be sung to by a stranger when you do that for strangers too?” It’s true. I sing for people on their birthday whenever I get the chance. I’m so sorry if you’re one of the majority in this world that dislikes being sung to on their birthday, but I can’t help it. I told Sarah that I received it. That little girl was so full of the Holy Spirit’s light & joy and it made my heart sing that her mother was raising her to never hide the joy of the LORD from this world.
My day ended with my whole family eating home made North Carolina style BBQ ~I thoroughly enjoy any style of BBQ just for your information~ for dinner & home made cheesecake for dessert. It was a sweet day because it was full of people I love, yummy food, & the Holy Spirit’s light and joy.
Oh & I cannot forget the gift that my mama gave me in addition to her next level food. Before she applied to nursing school she worked behind a cosmetics counter in Dallas, Texas. Over her time there she accumulated quite the collection of travel sized perfume bottles. They have lined her vanity ever since I can remember & for my birthday this year she gifted them to me. A treasure I will never let go of. I styled them on my dresser the next morning :)
