2021 trends: approved

I’m not a girl who goes out and looks up what the new trends are for a season, but I recently asked on my Instagram what people wanted to see from me on here. 2021 Trends was actually a big hit! I do approach trends with caution: can I style it 3 different ways right off the bat? do I see myself wearing this and actually feeling like myself in it as well as feeling confident?

Following trends is not bad at all but I just think if you’re not thinking about it enough for your personal style, you can come off looking cheap. When I do find a trend I adore and have to have, I make sure to mix it with classic pieces that don’t go out of style. It’s a super fun way to spice up something a little more expected.

I went out and did some google, Instagram, Pinterest, and magazine research & wrote a list of trends I approve of for this year! This was a lot of fun to put together so thank you to all who asked I do this! ~all photos via my iPhone camera or Pinterest~

Red

Whether it’s a sick red coat, red nails and a red lip, mixing pink and red year round, red accessories, or a monochromatic power look, red is everywhere and I love it. I will be pulling my red heels out a bit more than usual this spring.

This Denim

It’s so modern and so chill yet it still reads classic with the wash and material. Scared of the c. 2000’s low rise? I think you’ll be seeing this around a lot and like a trend faithfully does, it will grow on you.

Birks

I acknowledge that these are only photos of Ashley Oslen wearing clogs, but listen. I have seen many people already on Liberty’s campus sporting these comfy bad boys and I am loving them for travel looks! Like so cute!

The North Face

Did anyone else swoon over the TNF x GUCCI collab?? Yeah I am a biiiig fan. I have been seeing TNF during fashion weeks and in editorials and it isn’t for going skiing or worn for utilitarian purposes. The pieces are acting as some tres chic layering moments paired with high & low end pieces. I think it adds a level of irony to a look that I am absolutely here for. I heart TNF and that’s that!

Shirting

A classic that is so versatile. You’ve heard me talk about a white shirt in all of its glory before, so I won’t go on for too long here. I wear my shirts with sweats, denim, shorts, track pants, dresses, uuuhhh what else am I missing? Nike Shorts? Swimsuits? Those too. My favorite stylist recently did an article about how she goes about her shirting that I re-read like six times.

Cobalt

This. This was 2020’s Pantone Color, but it is still going strong. I especially love it for interiors! I recommend pairing with camel, red, or grey for a fun look.

Matching Sets

Some people never want to go back to these because it reminds them of quarantine, but I think the look is chic and they aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. I typically get the “you’re cool” compliments when I’m in all grey, all black, or all blue. If you are a little tired of the matching sets, try getting a little ironic with your footwear or handbags. Another tip is to try finding different proportioned sets or going tonal with your sets.

Loafers

I think they are so sick paired with a dress, denim, track pant, or sweat pant. If you’re worried as coming off as too grandfather, I just think of them like a Tretorn sneaker or bootie.

What is your favorite trend that has caught your eye for this year? Any that you totally would never ever wear? I’m curious! Let me know!
